I had a Sharp LC42D62U and then upgraded to the LC46D64U recently; the original LCD was great but there are several improvements made to the new 64 series. The 64 series LCD's are incredibly slim and have a smaller bezel. They really look awesome wall-mounted due to the small profile. No other LCD is currently available that is this slim and has this picture quality. The 64 series TV's also add several tone and picture corrections, an analog PC input, a USB 2.0 port for firmware upgrades, an RS-232 control port and three HDMI 1.3 inputs. The picture quality actually seems to be slightly better which is amazing because the 62 series looked fantastic (specifications indicate a better backlight system). I am a professional AV systems design engineer and part of my job is to keep up on new TVs. This unit is currently the best we've seen for a consumer model and we specify it all the time. I highly recommend this unit or any of the 64 series. 62 of 64 people found the following review helpful. great LCD, Great Technology, Very Thin By I. international Compared to Samsung 1080p with tons of reviews and which I returned simply because of lack of picture formats this TV rocks. In short, Samsung provide you with great and bright LCD panels but with zero technology. so a letterbox directtv movie on a 32 inch Samsung will be actually 22" viewing area on the screen. Try to use the picture formats such as wide and zoom and you get blurry and distorted picture which is to me impossible to view. This is were Sharp step up with it's technology. Picture formats are all viewable so you can super stretch a 4:3 picture without almost any distortion. The only con is lack of brightness (450 nits compare to 500-550 in other popular LCDs) but the blacks are superior. You can increase the brightness by playing with the contrast to full but then it is not like the Samsung whites but less eye soaring. I found that the Samsung brightness is great but after a while watching it sores on your eyes and the Sharp auto dimming feature is great for movies and it is fully controlled by the user. Aside to that, this TV is probably the thinnest and idle for hanging on the wall. The connections on the back are extremely well thought after for wall hanging. It seems that what people complaint about in the previous models in series 62U is now fully addressed in the 64U. I am perfectionist and recommend this TV. Most of my comparisons were for regular directtv broadcast. HDTV and DVDs shows naturally prefect. The colors are well defined as oppose to Samsung and you have tons of options to program it to your taste. Sound from these little speakers is the best comparing to not a few LCDs I had. Very well done! It needed 2-3 days to break-in and some customization. It is professional TV for professional users but very user friendly and within no time anybody can easily program the brightness, contrast, color and other cool features to its liking. This TV is also ready for the future and I find the 46" great size and very well balanced. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Decent picture quality, but has problems overall By Luke Eelman This TV has pretty good picture quality, a slick design, and intuitive menu, however all this is ruined by a major design flaw -- BANDING. Google "sharp acquos banding" is you don't know what I'm referring to. It's basically horizontal and vertical bands of uneven uniformity on the screen. Shows itself the most during panning shots (hockey games, wall pans on HGTV, etc., etc.) It's too bad, because I really liked this TV, but the banding ruined it and I ended up returning it. Bought the Samsung 46A550 instead and it is by far a much better set. (And cheaper too through Amazon.) See all 48 customer reviews...

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. Minimum size = Viewing distance/3 Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Most helpful customer reviews 97 of 98 people found the following review helpful. Someday, all TV's will have Ethernet... By Todd Whitehead While this is my first HD TV, I have been looking at them for a while. I have had trouble justifying replacing a perfectly good 27" Sony. However, now that the networks are moving actual content into the bars that fall outside the range of what my SD Sony can display, I finally got tired of missing 1/3 of the show and decided it was time to upgrade. I am a Netflix subscriber, and I have been using PLEX to stream Netflix content onto my TV as well as to stream other video content stored on my Mac to my TV. It works very well, but it is a little kludgey since I still want to be able to use the Mac wile using it to serve Video content to Plex. (The TV acts as a second monitor.) I was VERY concerned that I could find no reviews about this unit anywhere. It's just that new. I was especially concerned about how well the 'net connectivity worked. So, now that I have one, I thought I would write a review. It's an LCD HD TV. Picture quality looks fine to me, but standing in the store, they all kind of start to look alike. I'm not a video quality expert, I would say that I could see a slight improvement on the LED TV's over LCD, but I don't think it's drastic enough to warrant $500-$1000 premium. I was more interested in spending extra to get that Ethernet port on the back. So, how does it work? In a word: Amazing. I hooked my HD cable box up and got that working, then I plugged it into my home network. It recognized that I had plugged it in, and it DHCP'ed an address off and connected without any problems. I hit the Netcast button, and got my choice of Yahoo Widgets (There is also a Widgets button on the remote) Netflix, VuDu, YouTube and Picasa. I clicked Netflix, prepared to have to painstakingly enter my Netflix login and password using the arrow keys on the remote and a virtual keyboard. I was pleasantly surprised when it presented a URL for me to go to (on my computer) along with a code to enter. I went there (it was a Netflix URL) on a computer that was already logged into Netflix. I entered the code and BAM! my instant watch queue showed up. You can't browse movies here, just your instant watch queue. Put movies in the queue on your computer, and they show up here. Select a movie and after a few seconds, it just starts playing. You can skip forward and back and it shows the thumbnails very much like it does on the computer. It works great. The Netflix video quality was good, but VuDu was Spectacular. They call it near BluRay, and considering it is streaming real-time over the Internet, it looks really nice. I have only watched a few short sample clips from New Moon, but it was impressive. You get a free rental to sign up, and I'm looking forward to trying it out. I haven't done Picasa or YouTube yet, but I'm guessing those are just as easy. The TV came with a Windows-only Nero MediaHome Essentials 4. Since I don't have a Windows box, I can't load this. I'm assuming this is what LG expects you to use to access content directly from your PC. I did a little Googling and downloaded a trial of Twonky Media. A cross-platform DLNA server. Loaded it up, set up my directories for my content, hit menu on the remote and chose "My Media" and BAM! again! There were the files on my Mac. I streamed a couple of shows for a few seconds. Fast forward, rewind, it just works. It's amazing. I'm not sure I'm even going to bother hooking my Mac directly to my TV (who am I kidding, of course I will, because I can... but I doubt I'll actually use it much). Yahoo Widgets work as you would expect. They pop up on the bottom of the screen kind of like the Dock in OS X or Windows 7 and you can scroll through them and select them to have them pop up a window. You can have the window pop up over the picture, or you can have the picture shrink down so you can still see it all. I haven't really played with them that much.

We got it to replace a three year old, 32-inch Sony that has served us very well in our bedroom, but we wanted a bigger screen. We got the bigger screen in a better looking cabinet, and, a much better picture, much better sound, and a much better tuner. UPDATE (8/24/08) - If I could give this TV more than 5 stars, I would. When I registered my TV with SAMSUNG online (as opposed to mailing in the warranty card), they automatically extended the warranty from 12 to 18 months. Then, 2 days ago, I got a box in the mail from SAMSUNG with their USB wireless network adapter. For free! I attached it and gave myself a crash course in setting up wireless network security. At first I used automatic network setup on the TV menu. It worked well but intermittently with WPA-PSK encryption, but, flawlessly when I used manual wireless setup. The content this gives you is from USA Today. I found out what "That Darn Wheel" on the remote is really for. When you read a multipage news story, you have to use the wheel to turn the pages. There's no other way. I ordered a cheap HDMI cable from an Amazon independent vendor (cost $6, including shipping) and hooked the TV up to a Philips 160 GB HDD/DVD recorder with a built-in digital QAM tuner. Got rid of all the other cables to neaten up the cable tangle situation. The recorder does 1080P upscaling if you use the HDMI interface and the TV automatically senses and adjusts its resolution mode to match. Makes even regular channels look almost as good as the HIDEF ones. I don't use the recorder's tuner all the time for normal TV viewing, but when I need it, its there to add a new dimension for enjoying this TV's many features. I got almost $150 back during the 30 day grace period, and the price has fallen another $159 since, but I got it when when I needed it and don't regret not getting a better price. Every time I turn it on, I am glad I chose this model. Back to my original review - PLUSES - CABINET - The jet black bezel has a subtle tinge of red, and is accented with a clear rim. It's stunning. SOUND- I chose this model for the internal subwoofer. We don't want multiple speakers in our bedroom, and the Samsung's internal speakers work fine. We loaded a Blueman Group DVD and the internal woofer was pretty powerful. I turned up the bass on the built-in equalizer and had to throttle it back to neutral so the room wouldn't shake. The factory settings are fine. PICTURE - The picture is sharp, even on analog channels. Digital channels look even better. The wideband flourescent backlight delivers the promised color performance. The factory settings make both analog and digital pictures look fantastic, but I detuned the picture to dim down the light emitted into the room and set the energy saving feature to high which also degrades the picture. Know what? It still looks great. TUNER - We don't have and don't want to use the cable company's box, but, we can get all the analog content and unscrambled digital, high def channels they offer (NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and PBS). The Sony's tuner used to break up on Fox and ABC high def channels, but the Samsung's tuner locks in tight on everything. The Sony took a few seconds to lock on digital channels and the Samsung does this much faster. MINUSES - Not many. PRELOADED CONTENT - The content the factory loaded on the internal flash drive seems silly. It includes games, artwork, recipes, and entertaiment. The artwork includes high def works by Monet, Van Gogh, and Latrec. I can see that it might be nice to use the TV as a picture frame, but who needs it. The other content is OK to look at once, but after that, never again. You can't add content to the internal memory, but you can use MP3 and JPEG content on an external USB thumb drive. THAT DARN WHEEL - Overall, the remote is also great, but the

Glass panel front is VERY reflective By Bill in Virginia The great picture and good viewing angles for an LCD/LED were the reasons I bought this for our living room. It did not disappoint with either picture quality or viewing angle. But the EXTREMELY reflective glass panel covering this beautiful TV made it virtually unwatchable even though it was angled away from the main window. The blacks were so black we could watch ourselves watching TV in the dark areas of the picture -- especially while watching movies, which tend to be darker than regular TV. Many of the plasmas I've seen in the stores are less reflective, which makes plasmas viable options if you think you can handle a glass panel. The TV has been returned and we're shopping for less reflective replacement. 42 of 45 people found the following review helpful. Great TV set with amazing functionality By RZ I got mine from a local store on sale for a little under $1600. That was about three weeks ago. And since then my entire family just can't get enough of it. Picture quality is just great - and that's expected. But what amazes me is all the extra functionality with what this TV is packed. 1. Video streaming with Netflix. (It also has VUDU, YouTube, Picasa - but I did not try VUDU yet, and YouTube and Picasa work just fine, but I do not need a huge display to view some low resolution videos from YouTube). So Netflix movies available to watch instantly look great. Even those that are not HD quality. I must say that I have FIOS internet connection, so that must be also a component for high quality videos, but as far as this set goes - it does a great job. 2. This TV has 2 hi-speed USB2.0 input jacks, and it recognizes not just flash drives, but also USB external hard drives - even with NTFS file format. I tried both - FAT32 and NTFS, and also external drives with additional power source and without it, - this TV recognizes them all. It can play your video files (and other media too) directly from external hard drive! And it supports multiple video formats, including Matroska H.264. It also supports external subtitles for AVI files. I did not test multiple subtitles formats, but SRT works great. It supports standard Latin letters languages and Korean. No other encodings though. I want also to add a few words about design. I use a TV stand that it came with, and it allows TV to be turned both sides about 20 degree - just enough to get to the USB jacks or to additional audio or HDMI jacks that are placed on a left side. The main ones are located on the back panel - which is also pretty easy to reach thanks to that rotating feature of a stand. The rotation is very smooth and requires no force at all. I can't be more pleased with it. 82 of 94 people found the following review helpful. No Analog Audio Output By Wallace Guy The picture is beautiful. The frameless glass frame is magnificent. The speakers are so-so. We went to Best Buy to physically look at TV's, intending to buy a 42". Two things became clear. The best imaging technology (e.g., high contrast ratio, etc.) doesn't really kick in until the 47" models. I guess there isn't a big market for high quality / small size TV's. The other was the fameless frame on this model. Every other TV in the store, bigger and smaller, had a raised frame that surrounds (and protects) the glass front. The LG 478500 does not ... there is a single piece of glass that runs all the way to the edge. The glass just changes to black in color in a thin region around the edge. It looks more like a painting than a TV. My wife spontaneously yells out "that's magnificent!" and I understood my TV just got more expensive. We bought the TV from amazon with enhanced delivery. I wasn't there to observe, but my wife said they looked like they had never set up a TV in their life. At one point they wanted to lay it on it's front, but with the absence of a raised frame, that

Nerd's notes: First of all, for those that get the Sony BDV-E570 that was manufactured earlier in the year, it may have been before they fixed the issues with the software upgrade. I believe I received such a model. Being the overly concerned nerd that I am, I read the manual. It is not very specific, but does tell you to plug in the network cable to perform the upgrade. Read into this and you must assume to NOT PERFORM THE UPGRADE OVER WIFI. Well, you can take that a step further, (which of course I did), and you can download the update directly from Sony, place the files on a blank CD-R, then place the disk in the player and perform the update that way (it auto detects that the disk contains update files very nicely). This worked perfectly. No issues like the horror stories I have been hearing about this model (earlier this year), and the next model up the BDV-E770W. Due to the age of the model I received, there were two updates to perform, which I did, using two separate disks for each update. They take a while, so don't start one if you have somewhere to be. You do have to perform both, and the latter update is the more important one that enables the features that make this platform what most people are looking for, a 3D capable Blu-Ray HTIB with DLNA Features (both of these are why I got this model). Now on to the good stuff. Wiring: The room I placed it in is wired for 7.1, so connecting the rear speakers was not an issue. The speakers themselves have standard pinch connectors, so insert the wire and you are all set. At the reciever end, there is a custom connector, so you will have to splice it to your jack wires if you don't use the wire they provide (which looks a bit short for a larger room). Network: Ok, I did manage to get this onto my dual band Wireless N network, although all of the settings had to be set manually, it did not seem to like the WPS (Wifi Protected Setup), which configures the wireless settings automatically. After the updates, all the network features work fine, Netflicks, YouTube, Pandora, Slacker, and so on. Sound: Have a vaulted cieling in the room it is set up in, and it fills the room with plenty of sound. I am not cranking it and it is more than enough sound to provide a enjoyable home movie experience. Video: Not much to say here other than....WOW. The upscaling is very good. BD is awsome. Connections: If you are looking for a simple HTIB with a lot of features, this is the system for you. If you are looking for the HTIB to double as a receiver, look elsewhere, or make sure your TV has plenty of inputs/outputs. It does take audio inputs from digital coax from your settop box/satellite reciever, and optical audio from your TV (which is good if you have game systems, etc. plugged into your TV. NO HDMI IN. Bravia Sync works great. The TV and Player can be off, insert a disk, and it fires up the TV, kills the TV speakers, selects the correct input for the player, and you are off and running without having to monkey with the TV remote to select the correct input. The wife appreciates this feature more than anything else. USB works great, plays music on a usb thumb drive with no issues at all. System Menu: Since we do have a Sony LCD, I became addicted to the XMB menu interface (Cross Media Bar), the same interface on the PS3. It looks great and is easy to navigate. This system has the same menu interface, and makes finding the extra internet content very easy. Cons: There are not many, but aside from the lack of video inputs (does not affect me, but could be a serious issues for others), there are only a few things I would mention. First being a network feature that I selected this model/line for: DLNA. For some reason, it cannot see the DLNA server that I have setup on the network. I am looking into the reasons, and will repost if I find a solution. Speakers, while

TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass. TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience. Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper. TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself. The SRS WOW feature widens the sound stage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system. Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing. Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room? With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get. I'd say it's also a work of art. I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when it is dark outside versus light outside but it's perfectly great when it is light outside. I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV. The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. It comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me. If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. It is truly a wonderful TV. The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but it is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound. This is an amazing TV. UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about it at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV. UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy it already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television! FINAL UPDATE 3/19/2009: Well I've had this TV about a year and I can honestly say it still is great. The sound is great, too. But... in retrospect, when it comes to TVs, bigger is better. A year ago this TV was $1,200 and I just paid it off this month. But if I could have gotten a 42" or a 46", then that would be better. Don't get me wrong, the 40" is great, but what's wrong with a few extra inches? Either way you can't go wrong with the LCD 5 Series from Samsung. 74 of 75 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful Picture - Great Service By Rob. B One of my biggest purchases with Amazon and it went as smooth as possible. The picture on this TV is amazing. FiOS HD can be almost too much pretty on one screen with this TV, it's a bit overwhelming at first. Standard def channels are of course a less clear but better than expected. The only issue I have with this TV is the length of time to power on and off. You also have to point the remote just right sometimes or the function won't register. Small issue though, hardly worth docking points off this unit. The menu is wonderful and gives complete control over settings. Each input saves your settings too! The AVS Forums have a great thread concerning settings for each input that should be checked out and tested. A little tweaking got the black levels and skin tone just right. I haven't tested the VGA input, but my Macbook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI cable is amazing! My FiOS is connected via HDMI and as I mentioned, quite beautiful. I also have a Wii hooked up via component. The Wii maxes out at 480p but really shines on this TV despite the 1080p native res. Don't be fooled though, the picture is a little fuzzy but through some tweaking you can get a great picture without springing for a separate upconverter. Shipping was of course through Eagle/CEVA. Make sure to call and verify they've got your info. They didn't have my phone number on record at first so I corrected that. My delivery man was

Can't go wrong By FromPhilly Owned for three months now and I have no complaints...well it does get very dusty! 1st off - there is no buzz on my TV at all. When the set is mute or low I hear nothing at all. People say the sound sucks and even though it's not mind blowing I use the set speaker more than the surround sound system. To me the TV sound is quite fine and no worst or better than any old school TV we use to own. Why do I use the TV speaker so much? Simple. When people are trying to talk in the room, the phone rings, the kids are playing in the room or in bed, etc. the surround sound is often too much. Simply put the TV speakers are quite fine and should satisfy anyone but a audio snob. The TV is very loud once you pass 1/4 of the sound range (#25)...so you will always be able to hear it. Playstation 3 and BlueRay looks amazing on this TV. With the Playstation 3 the wireless internet was simple to hook up and works without a glitch. It was easier to get running than the Wii internet. We have comcast cable and the remote controls the TV, cable box and Surround Sound easily. With a standard Comcast remote I can do just about everything you need to do like switch from TV to the Playstation 3, control the Surround Sound, etc. Just push the "TV" button on the Comcast remote and hit the "Info", "Menu" or "TV/VCR" buttons to see what you can do. There are others too, just experiment. This makes switching any setting on the TV simple and with one remote. As far as glare goes I have the same amount on this TV as my old CRT TV. I do close the shades or curtains at times and it's no big deal. Ok so I found one thing to complain about - when you hit mute a little icon appears on the TV screen to let you know and it doesn't go away. To solve this I usually just lower the sound to zero. Problem solved. 19 of 23 people found the following review helpful. Great LED TV By David P. Accomazzo I purchased one of these the other day for the man cave. I primarily use it for PS3 games and movies. I was concerned about the 60 HZ, but even with sports and action movies I can not detect any blur or jerk. I like the feature of connecting a home computer through a network allowing one to view pictures, streaming etc... The TV looks good and the picture is excellent. The space saving design is a plus as well as the illuminating feature on the remote. The sound is OK. I paired it with a "Sumsung Sound Bar" (HT-WS1 Sound Bar - Speaker system - 260 Watt (total).. The bar sounds great and the remote works in perfect harmony with the TV. I would have rated TV with A 5 star , but I'M a realist and and nothing is perfect....but this come pretty darn close..... 4.5 stars..... 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Samsung LED TV impressions By Humdinger The 37" size flat screen TV is getting to be very hard to find. I've always been impressed with Samsung's picture quality when comparing brands. They proivide as much or more television for the money at each price point. I'm restricted in my choices to a 37" model because it is housed in a bedroom television armoire which has a 36" interior opening space. Therefore a 37" set (diagonal measurement) is the largest set I can fit inside that opening. This solid mahogany furniture is too expensive for me to discard in order to get a larger TV. I am pleased with the 37" Samsung LED overall. It has a characteristic crisp bright LED backlit picture, and is very light weight for it's frame size. I particularly like the slim profile which makes it easy to place into a confined space. I disagree with some reviewers who criticize this particular model for it's lack of sound quality. I am an audiophile and have not at all been disappointed with the sound quality of this set. Don't let any naysayers deter you based upon sound quality. My only reason not to give this TV five stars is that at it's price point I would have expected

The features are substantially identical, but after figuring that the difference between best prices for the two, which I could find after extensive shopping around, was only $50, I went for newer one for its updated look and lighter weight. In the reviews, one of the principal complaints for 2008 was the sound quality. I can't directly compare 2009 and 2008, but found 2009's LN40B550 to have perfectly adequate, if not excellent speakers, as far as TVs go. Picture quality, menus, setup are excellent as expected. One aspect that I did find puzzling is Wiselink not being able to recognize my old trustworthy USB Flash Drive. I even tried formatting the drive in various ways, unfortunately none of the tricks worked. Perhaps, it's the ancient drive not being comparable in some way, but it had never let me down before. Anyhow, I ordered a few different flash drives, and will try again, and then post an update. ==================================== Tried four various flash drives, all of them work just fine in computers, all four freshly formatted same way (FAT32). Two of the drives are read by the TV with no problems, the two others are not recognized at all... Go figure... The slideshow functionality is nice, quite limited, but does the job. Just for the reference, one of the drives that does work in this TV is Kingston Data Traveler 4GB. 72 of 73 people found the following review helpful. Very, Very Pleased! By chinee Only the second night with this set and I can't unglue myself from it. This is a great sub-$1,000 set that will please all but the most hardcore videophiles. This set is also very light, I tucked it under my arm to move it up and down the stairs. ToC is subtle, almost invisible, so those who don't care for last year's ToC, don't worry, you can barely see it the color on this TV. The swivel stand makes it easy so access the rear of the TV to hook up the cables that it makes you wonder why other manufacturers make stands without the swivel feature. I had originally purchased an LG, but the off-angle viewing was awful, but from the same seating position, the Sammy shines. As with all LCDs, some color is lost when viewing from off-angle, but this set always displayed a picture that was acceptable. If there's a weakness, it's displaying standard definition, as in regular cable, but that's a challenge shared by most LCD screens. SD does not look as good as I've seen on some other LCDs, but the picture is more than acceptable. DVD's showed great... Upconverted DVD even better, I was impressed... Blu ray blew my mind. The color depth, the dark blacks, the crisp picture... I was VERY pleased. I am sure you will be too! ==================================================== Update 07/13/09... Almost 3 months and I'm still happy. Had it hooked up to a Samsung BDP2550 bluray player and it's awesome. Currently using the upconverting Samsung 1080P9 DVD player and it's still awesome. I have to sit closer than 7 feet to see any difference between DVD and bluray. Also connected to my PC via an 18ft HDMI cable, streaming Netflix and using Windows Media Center to view the NCIS and Star Trek episodes I have on my hard drive. Still a GREAT purchase and I recommend this set to anyone interested in a 1080p LCD. =================================================== Update 10/31/09... Hooked up a PS3 Slim last month and started viewing movies on Bluray... it's like I got a new TV! I've never been able to see a substantial difference between DVD and BD, but after a few months of just DVD, Bluray on my 40B550 is blowing me away once more! I think I just picked up another habit... no more DVD purchases, only Bluray. And with prices going down on flat screens, this set is a bargain at $849. 37 of 39 people found the following review helpful. Feature packed and really good

InfoLink Up-to-the-minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information is just a cable and a click away through the HDTV’s Ethernet port and new InfoLink RSS service. An all-new user interface with digital contents management guide provides intuitive navigation and access to both internal and external content. Auto Motion Plus 120Hz This technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Instead, the TV intelligently calculates the ‘middle’ image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 120Hz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next. Super Clear Panel Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a  natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture.  Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes. The latest version of Samsung’s breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing. 50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio/500 nit Brightness 50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio will give you a picture better than you ever thought possible, with whiter whites, blacker blacks and a nearly infinite subtlety of gradations in between. As two of the most important determining factors in overall picture quality, contrast and brightness levels achieve new heights in this latest generation LCD panel. Samsung’s new LCD TV’s give the most stunning realistic picture quality ever. Full HD 1080P Full HD, or 1080p, contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. More scanning lines mean more pixels, more details and a better picture. The new Samsung LCD TV with resolution that is approximately 2 times greater than conventional HDTVs, creating the most perfect picture imaginable. Samsung’s 1080p panel uses a new high-speed liquid crystal to cut response time to 4ms. The fast response time, coupled with Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus 120Hz motion blur reduction technology dramatically reduces motion blur and judder. Digital Natural Image Engine DNIe™ The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine. This exclusive Samsung technology dramatically improves the picture by enhancing the contrast, detail, white balance and reduces. Wide Color Enhancer/Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors. Samsung’s exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system displays wider color reproduction, showing you truer colors – the fresh green of spring foliage, the intense blue of the summer sky. Connectivity To make the Series 6 a true entertainment hub for any home, Samsung has incorporated advanced HD connectivity and networking capabilities that expand the HDTV’s functionality. A wide variety of multimedia devices can be connected to the set through any one of the four Simplay compliant HDMI 1.3 inputs (including one on the side), and the handy HDMICEC feature lets you control all your CEC-enabled peripherals using just one remote. Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components into the 2 rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops. HDMI is the best performing interface for displaying an HD source on an HDTV. Once connected, users can easily access device menus and manage and display content through the newly redesigned Wheel Key Remote control and the HDTV’s sophisticated content management interface. All Connections HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface version 1.3): 4 (3 rear/1 side) Ethernet port Component video: 2 (Y, Pb, Pr) S-Video input: 1 side/1 rear A/V inputs: 1 side/1 rear PC Inpuy (D-Sub): 1 RF antenna inputs: 2 HDMI-CEC Premium audio: Improved sound quality with dedicated low-range speaker system Headphone jack Super Patterned Vertical Alignment Samsung’s Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (SPVA) panel provides a 178-degree viewing angle from all four axes Audio Features TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system. (updated) Thoughts After 1 Year of Use By JDC When I purchased this TV from Amazon.com I had already decided on this Samsung 52" series and was trying to decide between the 650 and the 750. At the time there was a small price difference between the two on Amazon.com. I ended up choosing the 650 because I was placing the TV inside a nook that had limited space. The 650 has a less bulky frame around the LCD screen and therefore it was only 50.2 inches wide as compared to the 750 which is 52" wide. Both screens have the exact same visual display area. Beyond trying to accommodate my limited space, I felt that the smaller frame looked nicer on the TV than the larger frame. The other reason I chose the 650 is that it can swivel on the base, whereas the 750 is fixed on its base. Because I have placed the TV in a nook, this swivel feature has come in very handy as I have had to get behind it from time to time to plug in cords, etc. I have read a lot about screen reflection and was bracing myself for a potentially unpleasant experience during daytime viewing, especially since the room the TV is in has windows all the way across two walls and is full of sunlight daily. I'm happy to report that screen reflection is absolutely no problem. The TV that I was replacing with the Samsung LCD was an older 32" Panasonic Panablack analog TV with the glass screen, which had a lot of reflection. As a point of reference, the Samsung has about 20% of the screen reflection of my old TV (judging from when the TV is off). When the TV is on, the Samsung has about 5% of screen reflection compared with what I used to have with my old TV, which may be due to the incredible brightness of the display. I spent a number of months on this decision and I feel like I hit a home run with this purchase. Samsung has certainly exceeded my expectations with this model and I have been very satisfied with my first experience of buying a TV online from Amazon.com. DEC 20, 2008 UPDATE: I've now owned the TV for more than 6 months. No regrets. The TV has survived well in a family with 5 kids under age 10. It's taken some direct hits to the screen with toys thrown by a 2-year-old but any marks on the screen easily rubbed off. It still looks just like the day I first got it and runs perfectly. I'm very happy with this purchase. JUNE 7, 2009 UPDATE: Still going strong after 1 year. Absolutely no problems with the TV. Best purchase I ever made. Everyone who has seen it can hardly believe the picture quality. I get positive comments all the time. 265 of 277 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful TV! From the picture to the bezel, just perfect. By Scomel I've had this TV since very early March. I've watched HD, SD and Blu-Ray and can not find a flaw. The 650 handles motion extremely well to where blurring and other artifacts are vitually non-existant. The AMP is a very cool feature that brings a realism to film making it seem more life-like, or as if it were originally shot on HD Video. Some have said this gives off a "soap opera" effect. I can see that description, but to me it makes film based DVD's and movies look more like your watching a real-life play, viewing it through a window. It's a very cool effect! I understand people's concern's with the glossy screens found on plasma and some LCD's. This screen is slightly less reflective than Samsung's 71 series but can still be a problem for some. It would be nice if there was an easy solution for this but there's not. Sony and other makers use a matte type of screen that certainly helps or eliminates the problem but introduces other negatives. I find colors and blacks just don't "pop" on matte screens and tend to wash out more for off-angle viewing. The 650 has a picture with great depth and color from any angle, greatly adding to the immersion effect. Much talk has been about the TOC bezel. I think Samsung has hit it out of the
