The neoHD might be small, but you can connect plenty of your devices to it, such as Blu-ray and DVD players, cable and satellite set top boxes, video game systems, USB storage devices, and even your iPod (using the optional YDS-11 iPod dock), in additon to your HDMI HDTV. Yamaha’s exclusive AIR SURROUND XTREME achieves surround sound with clarity and sound imaging unlike any other two-speaker system. You hear clear dialogue from the front, with distinctly separate surround sounds and smooth sound movement around the sound field. View back panel CINEMA DSP Digital Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects from ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. Compressed Music Enhancer Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible. Now all your digital music sounds like it was meant for your home theater and not just your headphones. Available late October 2010, the neoHD iPhone app makes control even easier The Power of a Dedicated Universal Remote Source Device Setup and Remote Code Learning The neoHD contains an extensive IR code database for various AV devices, all built in and ready to use. The On-Screen Wizard guides users through usually complicated remote programming procedures, making device setup quick and easy. In the event an IR code is not available, the On-Screen Wizard can assist users with learning the IR codes as well. Control up to six other AV components, with one easy controller. Click to view all the neoHD options Even if your remote codes aren't found in the internal IR database, the codes from other remote controls can be easily programmed into the neoHD remote control or the virtual remote control. While learning an IR command to one of the buttons labeled L1 to L14, you can select Rename and designate a name that will appear on the lower-right side of the virtual remote control when that specific button is highlighted. Favorite Station Memory with Fast Recall You can store up to eight favorite TV stations and recall them easily using the virtual remote keys. Rename the stations and from there the keys for the TV Favorite functions are displayed on the virtual remote control when Cable, Satellite/DSS, or DVR is selected as the type of the source device. Select "Fav" and the station name you registered. Optional iPhone App Controls the neoHD Receiver In addition to the dedicated neoHD remote, you can download an optional, free neoHD app for your iPhone that replicates the remote's functions. Brown This unit was very easy to install although finding the IR receivers on the other components was challenging. I wish the remote had numbers on it. I understand making it simple but it makes for slow channel access. I found myself having to keep the digital cable box remote for speed and convenience. I love the internet radio access and the ipod dock is a definite add-on we were glad we purchased. The unit is small and well laid out. This is a good looking piece. Unfortunately we have the tv in a corner and the surround sound is okay but not great. I think if this was set out properly it would work quite well. I do recommend this to anyone looking for a universal remote and good quality amplifier. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Fits certain needs By J. Platner Pros: +Small Form Factor +Great sound +Easy setup +Wireless access Cons: -User Interface -Limited remote with poor sensitivity -Limited front panel controls I chose this unit kinda knowing what I was getting into. Other reviews online are accurate and fair and all comparative receivers are much larger and more costly. It had a nice small form factor that included HDMI input processing. It also has great sound and relatively easy setup (about an hour out of the box). The sound is great and I only use the 2.1 (2 front speakers and a powered sub-woofer). The calibration mic works great for balancing your specific speakers orientation to the best performance. The wireless access is nice for firmware updates although I am unsure what exactly the last 3 updates did! Unfortunately the user interface is very basic and the remote is rather useless. You select your viewing input (TV, DVD, Console) on a simple graphic UI. The intended design of the system was supposed to eliminate all your other remotes. However with modern cable, satellite and DVR systems you will absolutely still need all those remotes to maintain your sanity. The only thing I use the Yamaha remote for is input selection and volume. Moreover, the only front panel controls are the on/off button and the large volume. It would have been very helpful to include front panel input selection (thus practically eliminating the cheesy remote). If you are looking for a simple, small, HDMI capable receiver this may be for you. If you need more control and probably less remotes, look elsewhere. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. This product is only okay. By mmmmmmm I was able to quickly set up the YMC-700 receiver with the other new equipment that I purchased at the same time: blu-ray dvd player, samsung hd-tv. I have been able to get most functions to work: Internet Radio, Pandora Radio, etc. To access Pandora and the Internet, this has worked quite well. There have been very few problems here - there have been occasional internet connections dropped. I use Netgear Powerline connectors throughout the house to provide ethernet connections throughout the house - the samsung tv and yamaha receiver are both connected to the internet this way. The Netgear Powerline connectors work great. The problem I have is connecting to my netowrk to access my music library. I have done as yamaha stated - ensure the pc has microsoft media player 11 installed. I have had problems with this connection when the pc's on my network were microsoft xp as well as now with new pc's using microsoft 7. I can get the network connected at times by changing the yamaha's network settings, but this only last as long as everything is powered up. Once I power down and power up, the connection drops. Remember, the internet connection still works fine in these situations - it's only the connection to my network that is the problem. I have sent a message to yamaha for support and received unsatisfatory support. I am attempting again to get specific support from yamaha. I'll update this review when I have more
